This presentation discusses the core treatment issues surrounding trauma and the use of expressive therapies. Participants will explore how expressive therapy techniques increase client engagement in recovery, illuminates their internal process, facilitates expression and the mind-body-spirit connection. Participants will explore several expressive exercises that can be used with eating disorder clients in group and individual settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will describe key bio-psycho-social-spiritual aspects of trauma.
  • Participants will be able to articulate how expressive therapy can aid in client engagement and facilitate expression.
  • Participants will be able to describe the mind-body-spirit connection and how expressive therapy works to integrate interventions in these key areas with a special focus on treating eating disorders, addictions and trauma.
  • Participants will participate in and be able to execute 3-4 expressive exercises which utilize art, role play and group interaction.

Meet our presenter,
Dr. Margaret Nagib, Psy.D.

Dr. Nagib is a clinical psychologist specializing in Christian counseling, inner healing and treating eating disorders, trauma, addiction, self-injury and mood disorders. For 15 years, she has provided individual, family and group therapy.

Today, as a key faculty member of Timberline Knolls’ Clinical Development Institute, she travels throughout the country providing clinical training and presentations to professionals. Every year, she offers more than 50 presentations at national and regional meetings, and contributes to awareness and early intervention through media interviews and blog contributions.
